Podcasting...Well........When doing the research on podcasting, I thought, Wow! what a great thing. I actually had never listened to a podcast before this week, believe it or not. And, I really feel that I was missing out. What a great way to keep informed. I was really impressed in the Apple examples of lectures at Universities and how students can learn on the go, when they are on the bus commuting. I really see the value. But, I guess like anything there are purposeful and unnecessary publishing. I have a feeling that anyone with time on their hands and a mind to speak could really be maybe dangerous and maybe people like to met people this way. So maybe another thing to caution about internet safety again.
So... let's go back to the educational value. I think podcasting is huge in teaching and learning. The possibilities are endless and I saw so much already out there. I am going to be a regular participator in podcasting from now on and hope to be mindful of the successful ones and what characteristics they have.
I have to admit, I found it a little more difficult probably than most individuals to create a podcast. I have to do something over and over to get it where I want it and I just could not produce the results I really wanted. But, I see the potential and want to really spend more time with the possibilities. First, I do not have a "voice" for "voice over work".And second, I guess I wanted video, music, photography, all the bells and whistles. Hard to do on the first one. I see that a quality, simple, creative approach is better that a "busy" podcast. I think I really need to listen and learn. I also think that certain topics lend themselves better to podcasts. A very interesting and imaginative story might be better than a dry case study. I can see this being for all ages and just really spreading the gamut on topics. Again, I would caution to the amateur castings and the topics they present and the intent they have.

Hey you had some interesting facts about ballet I found out about after listening to your podcast. I previously did not know so much about podcast and it sounds like you really have a liking for it. It is nice you and your daughter share that together.
ReplyDeleteLike you I had never listened to a podcast before nor had I heard of one. These are really interesting and it is always fun to learn new information that we can all use. You mentioned safety and being cautious in regard to podcasting and I agree with that. When publishing our podcast it ask if this podcast was for everyone or if it needed to be censored. That stood out to me because like you said anyone with time on their hand can publish something malicious. Like you I struggled with podcasting a little bit my first go around. After sticking with it I eventually got it down and I was good to go from there. There is an educational value behind this form of technology and learning on the go is a must in this busy, fast moving society we live in.
Hey Julianne, I'm not sure what's going on with my computer or your layout, but I could only read a little bit of your post until i "selected all" and pasted into Word. Weird.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I enjoyed your podcast, and I do think you have the right voice for it (though you may not agree with me:). I too wanted to add music and more pictures to mine, but couldn't be bothered just yet. I commend you for going all out on your first try! Also, the topic you chose was interesting, as I never really think of ballet as anything but really pretty dancing. Knowing there are deeper levels involved, even though I might not get it the first time, is always thought-provoking and eye opening. Thanks for sharing!
I'm hoping to keep up with podcasting both for fun and for education, and definitely will use one for my classroom. Such a handy tool!
Julianne,
ReplyDeleteJust like Brittnay, I found your post on podcasting is cut off on right hand side. I think the little fish animation you have inserted into your sidebar interferes so you may want to remove it and keep it in the posting area. You have an excellent podcast on the subject of ballet! I am so glad you went the extra mile to insert other media as this is what makes podcasting more interesting for listeners. Kudos on first podcast!
